Magical Bookmarks

 

Hello and welcome.  Today I'd like to share with you a couple of bookmarks made using the Apple for Teacher freebie combined with Magical Library (reminds me of Harry Potter) from Conjurer of Dreams for the bookmark challenge in the Facebook Inspiration Group.    

I started out by combining the images in Photoshop© before printing onto Neenah white card stock.  Taking a couple of plastic bookmark sleeves I had ordered 20yrs ago, and haven't finished using, I measured the size I would need to trim down my bookmarks before layering.  I then added some star sequins from Picket Fence Studios before highlighting parts of the lamps, and images, using ice stickles.  Once they had dried, I added them to the sleeves, punched a hole and added some blue/green fibers I've had for years.  Quick, easy and so cool - in my opinion.  I'll be giving one to my daughter, and the other to a friend, who both LOVE reading books...real books not just digital ones.

Recycled Alabaster Box

Hello and welcome.  Today I'd like to share with you a recycled Hills Bros. Cappuccino French Vanilla coffee container that I turned into an Alabaster box (to keep money in for our church's missions program) using packing from a Chewy order and some wood block stamps I received last year from a friend who had to downsize her stamp collection while moving across the county.  

I started out by adhering the paper packing to my coffee container using 5/8" Scor-Tape.  I then stamped my church image (Design Objectives) and both sayings (Believe - Hero Arts) (John 3:16 Printworks) onto scrap vanilla card stock in memento tuxedo black before coloring the church using copic markers.  Once the coloring was finished, I stippled Tim Holtz stormy sky lightly around the church using my Picket Fence blending brushes before layering it, and my John 3:16 panel, to scrap espresso card stock before adding copper brads to both.  I then adhered both panels to the coffee container using glue dots.  I now die cut two crosses using a Spellbinders Shapeability Cross die I've had for years and only used once or twice.  After adhering the crosses to the side panels using mini glue dots, I added copper ice stickles to the adhered crosses as my final embellishment.  I then cut a slit for the money in the plastic top of my new alabaster box to finish it up.  I've included pictures of all four sides:

Hello and welcome.  Today I'd like to share with you a journaling page I did a couple weeks ago in my bible.  Pastor's message that week was on the book of Jonah and after church, I was inspired to use stamps from Picket Fence Studios to create this bible journaling page (which I'm fairly new to).

 

I started out by stamping the whale/jellyfish/squid from Schools of Fish (retired) in memento tuxedo black ink before coloring it using my Castle Arts pencils.  Once my coloring was finished,I stamped the silhouette fish also in black before stamping the coral and sea ferns from A Dose Of Vitamin Sea in various memento inks before blending some tumbled glass and broken china distress inks to create my ocean water.

Hello and welcome.  Today I'd like to share with you a quick, clean and simple, one layer card I made.  After a frustrating day with doctor's trying to figure out what's going on with me, I needed a quick and easy card to try and take my mind off of my health issues.

I started out by stamping the image, and saying, from the Newton's Nook Designs set called Newton's Mug, I bought last year and hadn't used yet.  After stamping the image/saying in memento tuxedo black ink, I colored it using my Castle Arts pencils before blending a couple of retired Stampin Up inks, summer sun and yo-yo yellow.  The only embellishment added are some white sequins I found in my stash.

Boston Tea Party

 Hello and welcome.  Today I'd like to share with you a card made for the new Ways to Use It Time Travelers challenge over at Splitcoaststampers.com.  For my card, I decided to go with a Boston Tea Party inspiration and pulled out a set I had bought from The Cat's Pajamas during their stamp clearance called Ship Happens.  TCP currently has the set in digital form.  

After stamping my images on scrap Hammermill white card stock, I colored them using both Prismacolor and Copic  markers before stippling some tumbled glass distress ink over a slimline cloud stencil from Picket Fence Studios.  Taking some scrap light blue card stock, I used an old wave die-namic from My Favorite Things to create my waves before layering and adding brads.  The card was dry embossed using an old Cuttlebug divine swirl embossing folder with my big shot then lightly stippled more of the tumbled glass distress ink over it.  The only other embellishments are some silver/white bakers twine, crystal ice stickles and highlighted parts of the image using Castle Arts glitter gel pen all from my stash.

The Best Thing To Hold

 

Hello and welcome.  I am thrilled to be guest designing this month over on the Never Before Used Schtuff (NBUS) challenge blog.  The idea of the challenge is to use all the fun stamps, dies, supplies, washi tape, etc that we have bought and just have not used.  So dig into that stash, and let's get into those supplies and pull out the schtuff we just had to have and use it!

My card for this month's challenge uses a digital stamp (Pooh Cards 1 Classic), and matching digital paper (Bee Classic Pooh), from Dina Kowal Digital.  Now the weather in California has finally decided to get with the program and let Fall be fall and not just a summer hangover.  Now if we could only get some desperately needed rain.  So, I let our freaky California weather help inspire my card.

After printing the image,  on to Hammermill white paper before pulling out my dusty, and rarely used, watercolor pencils and got to coloring.  After blending the colors using an alcohol marker, I took my Picket Fence Studios Slim Line Cloud stencil and blending brushes and go to making the image background using Tim Holtz stormy sky distress ink.  Once my clouds were finished, I took those unloved watercolor pencils and created a rainstorm to go with my blustery day before layering and adding some ruby red brads then adhering the layered image to a ruby red card base with the Bee Classic Pooh digital paper on it.  I then sponged some ruby red ink around the edges of the card before lightly dabbing some of the leftover ink into the lower left corner of the image panel.  Taking a small scrap of the digital paper, I fussy cut, yes fussy cut, three of the honey jars out then adhered them to the image panel before highlighting the honey overflow using a Sakura clear 3D glaze pen.  The final embellishment was crystal ice stickles as raindrops.  I'm really happy with how this turned out, especially since I made it while dealing with a bit of a migraine.

Hello and welcome.  Today starts a new challenge over at Pammie's Inky Pinkies.  This week we are sponsored by Polkadoodles.  I would first like to thank them for their sponsorship and for providing the design team images for us to use.  Since this is the 5th Monday for October, we have a theme this week and it's celebrations.  My project this week uses this cute little Gnometastic Celebration Balloons.

After printing my image onto Hammermill white card stock, I colored it using both Lyra and Castle Arts pencils before stippling Tim Holtz broken china distress ink around it using my blending brushes from Picket Fence Studios before layering and adding brads.  I then took my card base and dry embossed it using a dusty Cuttlebug birthday embossing folder and my big shot before rubbing Pacific Pointe ink over the raised images.  I then took some scrap pacific pointe card stock, stamped it using a retired Stampin Up Beyond The Basics set before layering and adding my border.  Once I added the layered image panel, I pulled out some dusty dew drops for the final touch.  

 

I'm really happy with how it turned out considering how awful I feel.  I got my latest COVID booster this last weekend and it sure has kicked my booty!  Ugh!  I do, however, recommend getting the latest booster especially since you don't know if the person next to you is high risk or not; like I am.  Otherwise get it to protect your own family.

Hello and welcome.  Today I'd like to share with you another cute Pooh Bear image from Dina Kowal Digital Designs.  The set this image is in is Pooh Cards 1 Classic.  I started out by printing the image onto Hammermill white card stock before coloring it using both Lyra and Castle Arts pencils.  Since I wanted a "vintage" look, I then stippled some Tim Holtz walnut stain distress ink using my Picket Fence blending brushes before layering.  Once layered, I added it to a chocolate chip card with some Classic Pooh digital designer paper also from Dina Kowal Digital Designs.  I then stippled more walnut stain distress ink around of the edges of the card before adding some vintage pearls, from my stash, instead of brads.

Wildlife Babies

Hello and welcome.  It's been a few days since my last post.  In that space, life has been interesting.  I've been dealing with increased pain from both another migraine and fibromyalgia.  My lung issues have also been active as well and my husband had surgery plus his aunt's funeral is today.  I'm trying to keep my sanity with everything that's going on by coloring; no matter how much it hurts.  I'm trying to remember self care is important.  The card I'm sharing today is from one of those self care sessions.

I started out by stamping my image onto a piece of Hammermill white card stock then colored it using both Lyra and Castle Arts pencils before stippling Stampin Up tangerine tango and Tim Holtz mowed lawn distress inks around it.  After layering and adding brads, I stamped the hello saying from MFP Stamp Shop (now closed) to finish it off.

Going To The Beach With Coffee

Hello and welcome.  Hooray!!! We've made it halfway through the week and not melted yet.  I'm not sure what the temperatures are like where you live but we've had triple digits for almost a month along with some humidity.  Normally Central California temperatures in the summer are a dry heat; not this year unfortunately.  I SO would love to be at the beach right now but it's just not going to happen this year at all between health and the price of gas here in California.  However, I can pretend I am by coloring a beach scene and let my imagination run wild.

I started out by printing this Sandcastle Lighthouse digital stamp from Impression Obsession before coloring it using both Lyra and Castle Arts pencils before using a Picket Fence Studio Slimline Cloud stencil for the background.  I then stippled several Tim Holtz distress inks to finish off the sand. After layering my colored image, I adhered it to a blue card then added a clear sequin to the clam shell "light" using Ranger Glossy Accents.

My second card is made using my never before used (NBUS) Slothy Coffee stamp set from Newton's Nook.  I started out by stamping the image in memento tuxedo black ink onto a scrap of white card stock before coloring it using Castle Arts pencils.  Once I was done coloring, I just wasn't happy with how my image turned out, so I re-stamped it onto the back in memento tuxedo black, then colored it using prismacolor and copic markers.  I then went and color spritzed some Lilac marker lightly over my colored image.  Now I was happy with how it turned out.  I then took the Hardwood Stencil and created my background by blending green galore ink over the stencil using a Picket Fence blending brush.  After layering and adding brads, I popped up my sloth over the hardwood background.  As a final embellishment, I pulled out a dusty, unopened tin of Prima polka dot flowers I've had for years and never opened, and then added them with a bling center.

Even The Calendar Says WTF

 

Hello and welcome.  Let me start by saying it's been ONE OF THOSE WEEKS.  Ugh!  Between a lingering migraine (thank you Mother Nature's roller coaster) and the long haul COVID issues I've been dealing with, I knew I had the perfect digital stamp for the current challenge over at Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers even if my card is somewhat of a PG-13 version. The image I've used for this card is one of my favorite Gus images from Bugaboo Digital Stamps (now closed).

After printing off my image onto Neenah white card stock, I colored it using both prismacolor and copic markers before layering and adding some black brads.  Once I adhered the layered panel to my card, I added some faux sewing stitches to finish it off.  I'm pretty happy with how my mini slimline card turned out especially considering how I've been feeling lately.  It's gotten to the point of color/craft or cry.  I've been told that if I hadn't been fully vaccinated, and boosted, when I got my breakthrough infection, with my pre-existing conditions, I'd be in the hospital or worse.  So please, if you haven't already, get vaccinated/boosted because you do not want to catch COVID and run the risk of being a "long hauler" or worse.  It's just not worth it.  My PSA for the day.

Another Sunflower For Ukraine

 

Hello and welcome.  Today I'd like to share a card made using a retired digital image (NBUS) from Impression Obsession called Sunflower Farm Scene #1764.  I chose this image to use since I've been thinking a lot about the people of Ukraine and this image makes me think about how Ukraine's sunflower farms looked BEFORE the "aggressors" started bombing Ukraine's towns, villages, and people.

 

I started out by printing my sunflower image onto Neenah white card stock before coloring it using both Lyra flesh tone pencils and Castle Arts colored pencils.  Once the coloring was finished, I highlighted the frame using a gold Castle Arts gel pen before layering and adding brads.  I then added it to to a chocolate card before adding a scrap of twine and Sakura 3D glaze pens to highlight parts of the watering can and house/barn windows.  As an afterthought, I pulled out my Sonic distresser tool and distressed the edges of the chocolate card.  I'm really happy with how this turned out since I colored the image while my husband was watching the news plus I'm still dealing with my migraines and health issues.

What Cancer Cannot Do And A Walk Along The Beach

 Hello and welcome.  Today I have a couple of cards to share that I've made over the week but first, an update on me. I was told Wednesday by my pulmonary doc that I'm officially considered "long haul" COVID. I'm still very short of breath, coughing like crazy (pulled something in my chest Tuesday night), running a low grade fever off & on and coughing up some really gross, thick milky yellow garbage. Yuck! Doctors don't want me to go on any more antibiotics at this point since I've been in them too much & I'm starting to not respond to them anymore. I'm still taking a bunch of pills ( and vitamins recommended to me by my doctors to help combat the COVID) as well as Dupixent shots every two weeks to help the asthma. Thank you Lord for patient assistance programs! Those Dupixent shots are around $5000 each!! I'm also restarting the nebulizer meds 4x's a day plus adding an inhaled steroid twice daily in the nebulizer. Also have regular inhalers plus a steroid inhaler to help combat the trouble breathing. Downside-I'm gaining more weight again plus getting puffy like my late mother in law would complain about. The last couple days I've been losing my voice from coughing so much. Hubby and I have noticed lately my memory seems to be affected. When I asked the doc about it she said unfortunately in some long haul patients they're seeing this. She suggested I do everything I can to keep my brain engaged- reading, talking, etc. I told her I do read quite often & color/card make. She said all that is great. She also went over my last breathing test and said my lung function has decreased & wants to schedule me for a more in depth lung function test so we have a better idea how bad it is. My sense of smell is coming back slowly still so that's good.  My energy level still stinks though.  This COVID stuff has aggravated my migraines & put me in a fibromyalgia flare. The worst part of the visit, our pulmonary doc (hubby sees the same one) is relocating to the Bay Area the end of August, so we have to find a new one. There's only one other pulmonologist locally and there's no way he can handle the whole county. My husband's diabetic doc has recommended one at the Fresno UCSF clinic. The doctor is the head of pulmonology at Fresno's Community Regional Medical Center & she says is top notch. So we're going to see if our primary can refer us there.  Now on to my cards.

First up is a card made using using a NBUS Peonies stencil from Picket Fence Studios along with their blending brushes.  I started out by blending Stampin Up regal rose, pretty in pink, certainly celery and garden green inks on a Hammermill white panel before layering it.  I then stamped the What Cancer Cannot Do from The Cottage Stamper (now closed) that I've had for some time and never used in memento tuxedo black ink on vellum card stock.  After trimming, I added it to the layered panel using brads before adding the who thing to a regal rose card.

Second up is a card made using  SheepSki Designs

digital image Breezy Beach Walk.   After printing the image onto Neenah white card stock, I colored it using Castle Arts pencils before stippling Tim Holtz mowed lawn, broken china, tumbled glass and brushed corduroy distress inks then layered it before adding to my card panel.  Since I didn't have any matching brads, I made my own by using a really small hole punch and a Marta Stewart 2-way glue pen.  The final touch was waterfall ice stickles to highlight the ocean.
