Mermaid Lagoon

Hello and welcome.  Today, I'd like to share another framed piece I've been working on for a few weeks thanks again to my migraines.  I've only been able to concentrate for short periods of time especially this last week.  Between wildfires, heat and humidity I've not been doing good physically and mentally.  The mermaid image was a  Gecko Galz freebie last month for their fantasy challenge.  Besides, swimming in a lagoon is a lot cooler than sweating in the heat. ;)

I started out by printing the image as a 5x7 photo on Neenah white card stock then set it aside.  Taking some of my dusty Sizzix© and Cuttlebug© dies, I die cut several leafy branches, seashells, starfish and sand dollars before stippling all of those with Tim Holtz mowed lawn, dusty concord, tattered rose, broken china, tea dye and chipped sapphire distress inks and my blending brushes.  Taking the 3.5x5 mat out of the frame, I then blended Altenew lagoon dye ink to get a soft "teal" palette before re-adding it back into the frame.  I then added my printed image taping it to the die cut mat to make sure it stayed in place before re-adding the glass "window" behind my mermaid so she'd be a bit more secure.  Taking all of my die cut little pieces, I adhered all of those to the frame and mat using Ranger's© glossy accents.  It was at this point I decided she needed some coral so taking my dusty EK Sucess "oak tree" whale of a punch and more scraps, I punched out several colors of "oak trees" making sure to snip off the lower tree trunks so it would like more like coral.  The final touches were adding some small pearls all around the frame and googlie eyes to the sea horses, ice stickles to the mermaid's hair/tail and a few red crabs made using an old Fiskars© crab punch.  It took a while to make this but I'm very happy how it turned out.

I'm Not Crazy....

......although I feel like it sometimes. *shrug*  Hello and welcome.  Today I'd like to share with you an altered frame made using Gecko Galz Ask Alice collage.  As soon as I saw the crazy Cheshire cat image, I knew I needed to make an altered frame with it.  Plus, the added help of being pre-colored helps a lot when trying to create with these blasted migraines.

I started out by printing the collage on Neenah white card stock before trimming the Cheshire cat down to fit into a 3.5 x 5 frame.  Taking a bunch of orchid scraps, I punched the hydrangea pieces, both large and small, before adhering them to the frame using Ranger's glossy accents.  The final touches were two small butterflies and adding diamond ice stickles to all of the flower/butterfly centers and highlighting the cat's eyes using a clear 3D glaze pen.

Recycled Brush Holder

 Hello and welcome.  Today I have a quick, and easy, project to share using a recycled tin can, some stickers, paper flowers and a long retired Stampin Up jumbo wheel. 

I started out by rinsing out a can of garbanzo beans/chickpeas and letting it dry thoroughly.  Taking a long piece of scrap Neenah white card stock, I inked up the dry brush jumbo wheel using my Tim Holtz walnut stain distress ink pad by rolling the wheel across the pad several times.  Once I had the whole scrap covered, I adhered it to the can using 5/8 x 27 in Scor-Tape.  Digging into my stash of stickers and such, I pulled out a strip of ivy and bee stickers I've had for who knows how long, and an old package of Making Memories purple paper flowers.  I started out by adhering the flowers using glue dots before adhering the ivy and bee stickers.  The final touch was adding some crystal ice stickles to the flower centers.  I'm really happy with how this "can" turned out especially since I've been dealing with a nasty migraine from the weather we've had here lately (and still have).   One less "thing" going into a landfill or the ocean.

Recycled Alabaster Box

Hello and welcome.  Today I'd like to share with you a recycled Hills Bros. Cappuccino French Vanilla coffee container that I turned into an Alabaster box (to keep money in for our church's missions program) using packing from a Chewy order and some wood block stamps I received last year from a friend who had to downsize her stamp collection while moving across the county.  

I started out by adhering the paper packing to my coffee container using 5/8" Scor-Tape.  I then stamped my church image (Design Objectives) and both sayings (Believe - Hero Arts) (John 3:16 Printworks) onto scrap vanilla card stock in memento tuxedo black before coloring the church using copic markers.  Once the coloring was finished, I stippled Tim Holtz stormy sky lightly around the church using my Picket Fence blending brushes before layering it, and my John 3:16 panel, to scrap espresso card stock before adding copper brads to both.  I then adhered both panels to the coffee container using glue dots.  I now die cut two crosses using a Spellbinders Shapeability Cross die I've had for years and only used once or twice.  After adhering the crosses to the side panels using mini glue dots, I added copper ice stickles to the adhered crosses as my final embellishment.  I then cut a slit for the money in the plastic top of my new alabaster box to finish it up.  I've included pictures of all four sides:

A Little Retro Beachfront Lighthouse

 

Hello and welcome.  I am thrilled to be guest designing for the Retro Rubber Challenge Blog for this week's challenge which is a tic-tac-toe challenge. (see below graphic)  For my project, I went with the pens/pencils, beach (mine has a lighthouse) and stencil (background clouds).

For my project, I did a late Father's Day/Birthday gift to my husband and used a Lighthouse Scene stamp from Hero Arts that I bought back in 1996 or 1998 (copyright info too small for my migraine) when I first started stamping.  My husband has been asking for me to make another project using this stamp for years now and I finally got it done.  It's amazing to see how my coloring skills have improved from way back when.  I had given him a framed lighthouse as a birthday present years ago and colored it using Crayola pencils.  This new one is colored using Castle Arts pencils and I'm amazed at the difference in my shading from then to now.  Behind my lighthouse I used a slimline cloud stencil from Picket Fence Studios along with Tim Holtz tumbled glass distress ink using blending brushes also from Picket Fence.  Below is the side by side view.

Stella And Mood Swings

Hello and welcome.  Today is Anything But a Card Monday at Catch The Bug so I have another framed piece to share using a new Bugaboo image for me called Stella Tidbits - Caution and a dollar store frame.

After printing it out as a 3.5x5 inch image onto Neenah white card stock, I colored it using both prismacolor and copic markers before lightly stippling some Tim Holtz tumbled glass and milled lavender distress inks around it.  I then took the frame apart and traced the frame part lightly onto the image panel so I would know where my borders would be.  Taking several pieces of scrap Stampin Up card stock, my leafy vine sizzix die and my big shot, I began making several vines to drape from above the image and from the frame itself.  I then took a Martha Stewart three hydrangea punch and made several two-toned flowers.  Once I began assembling the frame, I place the glass part behind my image for added support, which would give me more room for the vines.  The vines and flowers then were assembled using micro glue dots and Ranger Glossy Accents.   I'm really pleased with how this turned out.  I'm going to hang it in my house instead of giving it away. ;)

Hitting The Escape Key

Hello and welcome. Today I'm guest designing for Bugaboo Digital Stamps over on their challenge blog Catch The Bug for the month of July.  My project today is a cute little framed piece I've wanted to do for some time, but haven't until now, using the Escape Key digital stamp.

I printed my image off slightly larger so it would fit into a 4x6 frame, giving me a 3.5x5 inch framed image.  Once that was done, I colored using both prismacolor and copic markers before adding the image to my frame.  I then added a K&Co Clearly Yours clear circle sticker over the clock and highlighted parts of my image using 3D glaze pens.  I then pulled out some white silk flowers I had forgotten about, adhered them to the frame using Ranger Glossy Accents, some punched forest green leaves and then some bling to finish it off.

Hmmm, no internet...that sounds soooooo good right now with the way things have been the last several months for me.  Ugh!  But enough of that.  Today I am sharing a homemade vacation journal using a dollar store book, card stock, and a few stamp sets: I Need A Vacation, Silly Goose, Flamingos On Vacation.  After stamping my images on white card stock and coloring with prismacolor pencils, I then layered everything, stippled some Tim Holtz distress inks for sand/ocean/sky and then added brads and ribbon to finish it off.
