Get 'Em Squished

Let's have a serious heart to heart discussion.

Saturday, October 3rd, was World Card Making Day and one of the challenges on Splitcoaststampers involved the new digital Think Pink image from My Favorite Things. We were to use the image to make a pink, black and bling card. Not a problem for me.

So I printed my image out on white cardstock, colored with prismacolor markers, then sponged with Stampin Up! pretty in pink ink and began layering. I added my bling to the skirt flowers and around the saying from MFT's Twisted Sentiments Two.

Now October is also Breast Cancer Awareness month which is a subject near and dear to my heart. This coming October 24th, my mother would have been 62 years old had she survived her battle with breast cancer. Her doctors discovered her cancer when she was 38 years old and mom passed away at age 42 on May 19th, 1991. Two weeks ago, I turned 42 myself and have had two breast biopsies with one lump being removed already between the ages of 23 to now. On May 20th, 2010, I will have outlived my mother and it's not a date I'm looking forward to.

Having a mammogram is so important as a woman. We go to the doctor every year for our "year pap smear", so why is it so hard to get the mammogram done? Just make it part of your yearly routine. So much is riding on it.

What are you waiting for?

  1. Bonnie, thanks for sharing your story. I'm sorry that your mom did not survive her cancer. Your card is beautiful! I'm due for my annual "squish" -- thanks for the reminder to make that appointment!
